Creativity begins in the Early Years through open-ended exploration and play. Children experiment with colour, texture, shape and a wide range of materials, developing their fine motor skills while learning to express their ideas visually. Through painting, drawing, collage, modelling and imaginative making, they observe the world around them and discover the enjoyment of creating.

Students build confidence across a broad range of artistic techniques, including drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, textiles and sculpture. Projects often connect with other areas of the curriculum, from creating Stone Age cave paintings using handmade pigments and Egyptian-inspired printed portraits to designing African textile patterns. Through these projects, students develop both technical skills and an understanding of how artists communicate ideas across different cultures and periods.

As students progress, they work with increasing independence, using sketchbooks to research, experiment and develop their ideas. They refine their skills across a range of media through projects linked to artists, cultures and historical periods, creating work inspired by themes such as Cubism, abstract art, portraiture, printmaking and sculpture. Throughout the creative process, students are encouraged to experiment, evaluate and refine their work, developing both technical expertise and their own artistic voice.

Art extends beyond the classroom through visits to London's world-renowned galleries and museums, including the Tate Modern, the National Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Whether sketching from masterpieces, exploring sculpture and design, or drawing inspiration from the city's architecture and public spaces, students develop their observational skills while discovering how artists respond to the world around them.
