Music

A love of music begins in the Early Years, where singing, movement, rhythm and play are woven into children’s daily experiences. Inspired by the Kodály method and developed in-house, our dedicated Music Sparks programme uses songs, stories, games and creative play to build listening skills, musical awareness and confidence. These joyful early experiences nurture self-expression and curiosity while laying strong foundations for future musical learning.

Building on these foundations, students develop their musicianship through singing, instrumental performance, composition and active listening. They begin reading and writing musical notation, explore rhythm and pitch through voice and percussion, and compose simple melodies using both traditional and digital tools. Alongside developing their performance skills, they discover music from different genres, cultures and historical periods, learning how music has evolved over time.

Students perform and compose increasingly sophisticated pieces, experimenting with melody, harmony and musical structure while making thoughtful creative decisions. Through the study of contrasting musical styles and composers, they develop a deeper understanding of music history alongside the analytical vocabulary to discuss and evaluate what they hear.

Students have regular opportunities to share their musical learning beyond the classroom. From performing in our 200-seat theatre to taking part in the annual Talent Show, they develop confidence, stage presence and the joy of performing in a supportive environment.
