What Is the Duke of Edinburgh Award?

The DofE Award is an internationally respected co-curricular programme designed for young people. Offered up to the Silver level at Jeannine Manuel School, the award involves four elements: volunteering, physical activity, skill-building and an outdoor expedition. Over several months, students commit to personal goals, take part in enriching activities, and complete a self-sufficient journey in the British countryside - gaining resilience, self-motivation and a deep sense of accomplishment along the way.

A Student-Centred Experience

A group of students are gathered around a large map spread out on the floor, engaged in discussion and collaboration.

At Jeannine Manuel School, each student’s DofE journey is unique, and we support students in selecting meaningful activities that reflect their interests. Through their DofE experience, students explore the outdoors, contribute to their communities, and develop life skills that extend well beyond the classroom.

Why It Matters

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award encourages students to step outside their comfort zone, develop independence and build lasting confidence. As they navigate challenges, work in teams, and contribute to their communities, students strengthen essential life skills that support their wellbeing and future aspirations. The experience complements our academic curriculum, fosters leadership and resilience, and reflects our school’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals who Think, Dare, Share & Care.
